The purpose of this course is to enhance the knowledge of the health care professional in defining, assessing, identifying, increasing awareness, reporting, and caring for older adults who may be suffering from abuse or neglect, whether in a private home or a residential setting.

This course discusses the care of individuals with dementia and is intended to meet the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) requirements for dementia training. Topics covered include communication, behavior management, abuse prevention, and dementia. All staff working in the long-term care setting will increase their knowledge and skills in caring for people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia.

This course will help the health care worker understand and implement appropriate interventions for aggressive behaviors.

This course – along with part 3 of this series, “HMOD003 - Accessibility Design Solutions” – will guide you through the selling and designing of home modifications using an independent/assisted living strategy.

The Aids to Daily Living Specialist (ADLS) credentialing program is administered by VGM Live At Home. You will study what the August 5, 2016 Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) memo mandated that nursing homes do in regards to social media, including creating and implementing policies, training staff, and responding and reporting allegations of abuse. In June 2016, the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) gave written guidance to members about what these policies may encompass, which will be discussed.

This course is intended for all employees in the long-term care setting. To enhance the knowledge of nursing assistants in accurate documentation of activities of daily living.

The information provided here includes strategies to assist with activities of daily living, such as bathing, personal hygiene, and eating. Medications prescribed for people with dementia will be discussed as well as any potential side effects.

Intended Audience: Location managers, billing managers, marketing/sales managers, regional managers, and other designated managers and supervisors. Use of the term supervisors will be used throughout this training as a generic term to include all in the intended audience.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
1. Identify ways to recognize evidence of employee alcohol and other drug abuse.
2. Identify how to document employee alcohol and other drug abuse problems.
3. Identify how to conduct appropriate investigations related to substance abuse.
4. Identify how to validate and confront employees with substance abuse problems.
5. Identify ways to effectuate the basic requirements for drug testing.

Health care personnel will enhance their understanding of elder abuse and requirements of the Elder Justice Act.

Participation in the renewal is required to maintain your certification for two-years.

The renewal fee is valid for two years from purchase date and is non-refundable.
