Purpose: All staff working in the long term care setting will increase their knowledge and skills in caring for persons diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or a related disorder. Objectives: 1) Discuss behavior management and challenging behaviors associated with Alzheimer’s disease; 2) Explain strategies and techniques for dealing with challenging behaviors; 3) Describe problem-solving approaches to challenging behaviors; 4) Discuss interventions that are alternatives to restraints; 5) List five types of elder abuse; 6) Review legal timelines for reporting elder abuse; 7) Summarize strategies to prevent elder abuse.
