This is the second of a two-part series of courses that discusses a wide range of issues related to workplace safety. In this second part, we’ll address procedures to report and investigate accidents and other emergencies; basic safety rules and standards your company should consider adopting; how to handle hazard communication, bloodborne pathogens, safe electrical procedures, and process safety management.

In this first part of the series, we'll address the areas of responsibility for enforcing safety rules within your company; how to identify, analyze and control hazards within your facility; the types of inspections you should be conducting in your workplace; and the type of safety training your company should be offering to your employees.

This course will review some of the basic elements of environmental safety for long-term care facilities. Key points on the topics of fire safety, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, internal disaster preparedness, and water management are included. U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is the federal agency responsible for oversight of employee safety. The guidelines in this course are based on OSHA regulations.

For many years, health care and social service workers have faced a significant risk of job-related violence. Assaults represent a serious safety and health hazard within these industries. OSHA’s violence prevention guidelines provide the agency’s recommendations for reducing workplace violence. 

This course discusses the topic of harassment in the workplace and speaks specifically about workplace bullying. You will learn what behaviors define bullying, the physical and mental effects of bullying, what to do if you are being bullied, and the ways bullying behaviors harm your company. Continuing education: This course does not offer any continuing education credits.

Health care employees will be able to increase their knowledge and skills for protecting their back from injury when working with individuals who require assistance with moving and lifting.

This workshop will help you think about how stress shows up for you, identify concrete tools to help you maintain your best performance at work and communicate your needs and boundaries professionally.

Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination, which is a violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Sexual harassment affects an individual’s employment, interferes with work performance, and creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment. This course will provide an overview of the issue of sexual harassment in the workplace, how it can be prevented, and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s (EEOC) process for receiving and resolving complaints.

Health care supervisory personnel will refresh their knowledge related to recognizing substance misuse in the workplace. 

To provide information in accordance with Iowa law that a supervisor needs to develop and/or implement a substance abuse prevention program, including drug and/or alcohol testing, in the workplace setting.

Upon completion of the Safety Fair Series the participant will have an in depth review and understanding of regulatory and compliance topics; many which are required annually. The following courses are included in the Safety Series: Employee Safety (1.0 HR); Environmental Safety (1.0 HR); Infection Control (1.0 HR); Resident Rights (1.0 HR).

Learners will gain knowledge and skills related to ladder safety.

The Home Safety Assessment Consultant (HSAC) education course will teach you how to perform professional Home Safety Assessments. People need to modify their homes for many different reasons. The most common would be that a family member is beset with a mobility impairment due to injury, or people in elderhood want to Age in Place and to upgrade their home to reduce fall risks. The HSAC course will teach you to assess the safety hazards of the whole living quarters from driveway to the entrance, and every room on every floor of the home. We provide a Home Assessment guide and evaluation process to follow along with tips on how to educate the consumer on the risks their home has and possible recommended solutions.

The C.E.A.C. and the C.E.A.C. Mastery credentialing programs include course content from The Home Safety Assessment Consultant (HSAC).

This course contains two articles: one comparing active and passive technologies in sharps safety and the other describing the role of an infection control practitioner (ICP) in managing pharmaceutical waste.

This course provides an overview of safety data sheets (commonly referred to as SDS and until 2012, MSDS).

This course covers basic safety and component information, center of gravity, and operating hazards. You should complete this course before completing Part 2.
