To be aware of general safety issues and how to prevent injuries in the workplace.
Description: Safety in the health care setting should be a priority for all staff. Safety includes a broad range of areas including prevention of infection to proper use of one’s body in lifting and moving. Many health care facilities spend thousands of dollars each year on injuries resulting from the failure of staff to use good safety practices. This self-study will increase health care workers’ understanding of specific safety rules and how to prevent injuries in the workplace.
Objectives: Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
1. Describe the steps of hand hygiene and its importance in health care.
2. Discuss the basics of ergonomics.
3. Discuss kitchen safety and be aware of work practices to avoid injury.
4. Discuss what information is included on a Safety Data Sheet.
5. Identify slips, trips, and falls and how to prevent them.
6. Explain ways to avoid injury when using ladders.
7. Discuss bloodborne pathogens.
8. Identify tuberculosis symptoms and testing protocols.
9. Identify ways to prevent aggression and how to react to it.
