To provide information in accordance with Iowa law that a supervisor needs to develop and/or implement a substance abuse prevention program, including drug and/or alcohol testing, in the workplace setting.

Health care supervisory personnel will refresh their knowledge related to recognizing substance misuse in the workplace. 

Intended Audience: Location managers, billing managers, marketing/sales managers, regional managers, and other designated managers and supervisors. Use of the term supervisors will be used throughout this training as a generic term to include all in the intended audience.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
1. Identify ways to recognize evidence of employee alcohol and other drug abuse.
2. Identify how to document employee alcohol and other drug abuse problems.
3. Identify how to conduct appropriate investigations related to substance abuse.
4. Identify how to validate and confront employees with substance abuse problems.
5. Identify ways to effectuate the basic requirements for drug testing.

The healthcare employee will enhance their recognition of alcohol and other drug (substance) misuse in the workplace setting.

Nurses working with older adults will review and update their knowledge of adverse drug reactions and compliance/prescription issues that may affect the aging population.

Nurses working with older adults will review and update their knowledge of how medications can affect the elderly.

Nurses and other caregivers working with older adults will review and update their knowledge of medications commonly misused by the aging population and potential problems that can occur.

Healthcare professionals will gain knowledge regarding basic principles of pharmacology to include pharmacokinetic processes, several drug classes, and some of the commonly used drugs within those classes.

This course is a 2-part series of modules introducing you to Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP), a set of regulations enforced by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that apply to the manufacturing, filling, transfilling, cascading, etc. of medical gases. This course covers the qualifications of employees and facilities, plus the proper calibration of equipment based on CGMP and looks at what takes place during the pre-fill inspection of various containers. Methamphetamine addiction has grown to epidemic proportions in the United States. Chemicals used to make meth include ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, and phenylpropanolamine which are found in many cough and cold products and are known as “scheduled listed chemical products” (or SLCPs).
