This is the second of a two-part series of courses that discusses a wide range of issues related to workplace safety. In this second part, we’ll address procedures to report and investigate accidents and other emergencies; basic safety rules and standards your company should consider adopting; how to handle hazard communication, bloodborne pathogens, safe electrical procedures, and process safety management.

In this first part of the series, we'll address the areas of responsibility for enforcing safety rules within your company; how to identify, analyze and control hazards within your facility; the types of inspections you should be conducting in your workplace; and the type of safety training your company should be offering to your employees.

This course will review some of the basic elements of environmental safety for long-term care facilities. Key points on the topics of fire safety, hazard communication, lockout/tagout, internal disaster preparedness, and water management are included. U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is the federal agency responsible for oversight of employee safety. The guidelines in this course are based on OSHA regulations.

For many years, health care and social service workers have faced a significant risk of job-related violence. Assaults represent a serious safety and health hazard within these industries. OSHA’s violence prevention guidelines provide the agency’s recommendations for reducing workplace violence. 

This course discusses the topic of harassment in the workplace and speaks specifically about workplace bullying. You will learn what behaviors define bullying, the physical and mental effects of bullying, what to do if you are being bullied, and the ways bullying behaviors harm your company. This course will provide an overview of the issue of sexual harassment in the workplace, how it can be prevented, and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s (EEOC) process for receiving and resolving complaints.

The Home Safety Assessment Consultant (HSAC) education course will teach you how to perform professional Home Safety Assessments. People need to modify their homes for many different reasons. The most common would be that a family member is beset with a mobility impairment due to injury, or people in elderhood want to Age in Place and to upgrade their home to reduce fall risks. The HSAC course will teach you to assess the safety hazards of the whole living quarters from driveway to the entrance, and every room on every floor of the home. We provide a Home Assessment guide and evaluation process to follow along with tips on how to educate the consumer on the risks their home has and possible recommended solutions.

This course contains two articles: one comparing active and passive technologies in sharps safety and the other describing the role of an infection control practitioner (ICP) in managing pharmaceutical waste.

This course discusses the potential causes of back injuries, and how to avoid them.

Using ladders can be hazardous. This course describes the various types of ladders and explains how ladders can be used safely at work and at home. The material for this course is provided courtesy of the American Ladder Institute. Learning objectives: 1. Identify the types of ladders available on the market today; 2. Explain how to use each type of ladder safely; 3. Describe how to properly care for each type of ladder. To successfully complete this course, you must attain a minimum score of 80 percent on the final exam and complete the course training survey. This self-study will help health care staff understand the basics of how fires occur and spread and how to prevent fires. Health care staff will increase their skills in recognizing fire hazards, preventing fires, and options for responding appropriately to a fire emergency.

This course focuses on forklift inspection and operation, load handling, and forklift refueling. You should complete Part 1 of this series before completing this course.
