Ergonomics is the practice of designing work tasks, equipment, and work environments to fit the capabilities of the worker. This course provides an overview of ergonomic principles and common risk factors that health care and HME/DME providers should be aware of to help reduce physical strain and prevent work related musculoskeletal disorders.

This course provides an overview of safety data sheets (commonly referred to as SDS and until 2012, MSDS).

This course focuses on recognizing common back injury risk factors, understanding how work tasks contribute to strain, and identifying safer alternatives to manual lifting. For many years, health care and social service workers have faced a heightened risk of job‑related violence. Assaults and other violent incidents represent serious safety and health hazards within these industries. OSHA’s workplace violence prevention guidelines provide recommendations and best practices to help employers identify risks, implement preventive measures, and reduce the likelihood and severity of workplace violence incidents. (This course is intended for safety coordinators. Health care workers should complete SAFE015 - Preventing Workplace Violence instead.)

This course is the first part of a two-part forklift training series designed to prepare employees for hands-on forklift training and evaluation. This course covers forklift fundamentals, basic safety principles, forklift components, center of gravity concepts, and common operating hazards. Employees should complete this course before progressing to Part 2. 

Successful completion of this course does not authorize an employee to operate a forklift. Operators must also complete practical training and a hands-on evaluation before operating a powered industrial truck independently.

This course addresses the occupational hazards that can occur in a patient’s home setting and the measures that can be taken to prevent injury should hazards occur.
