This six-module Residential Grab Bar Specialist (RGBS) Program has been developed to educate the environmental access and home modifications professionals in grab bar, railings, and railing systems design, construction, and alterations that safely resolve individual mobility and accessibility needs. The program is designed to reduce disparity in training and professional knowledge among people who evaluate, design, install, and maintain grab bars, railings, and railing systems to provide residential access for people with physical challenges. This program also assists those studying for the Certified Environmental Access Consultant (CEAC) certification exam and the CEAC Mastery Program. CEAC applicants should pay close attention to any highlighted glossary terms and obtain additional resources when necessary to better understand topic areas.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this six-module program, you will be able to:
1. Compare how products relate to the RGBS, adopted ADA standards, and/or an individual’s specific needs.
2. Recognize the client’s in-home safety and mobility limitations as they relate to grab bars, railings, and railing systems, and the required documentation for the client.
3. Identify the types of grab bars, railings, and railing systems that can effectively increase safety and accessibility for the individual client’s needs and desires, and the required documentation for the solution(s).
4. Identify the challenges of a client’s living environment and the recommended documentation necessary to ensure functionality and safety of a properly installed grab bar, railing, or railing system.
5. Identify current ADA standards and applications adopted by the RGBS course, local building codes and covenants, as each pertains to residential grab bar, railing, and railing systems placement and installation.
6. Recognize what steps should be taken in training clients to use grab bars, railings, and railing systems for proper maintenance and safety.
