Employees working in health care facilities will increase their understanding of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements regarding lockout/tagout.

Employees servicing or maintaining machines or equipment may be exposed to serious physical harm or death if hazardous energy is not properly controlled. Knowing the proper lockout/tagout practices and procedures will ensure the safety of employees working with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, thermal, and other energy sources. This self-study will outline the OSHA requirements necessary to protect employees who may be exposed to these hazards in the work area.

Objectives:
1. Discuss the OSHA standard for lockout/tagout.
2. Increase understanding of the importance of controlling hazardous energy sources.
3. Identify the OSHA performance requirements for controlling hazardous energy.
4. List the steps in the energy control procedure.
5. List the requirements for lockout/tagout devices.
6. Discuss what needs to be included in an employee training program.
