REG113 – Residents’ Rights (1.0 HR)
Health care personnel working in the long-term care setting will increase their knowledge and understanding of residents’ rights.
Purpose: Everyone in the United States has certain rights that are guaranteed by law. Residents in long-term care facilities have additional rights, including the right to receive quality care and be free from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. All health care personnel must be familiar with residents’ rights and how these relate to the care provided. This course is intended to help all health care personnel working in the long-term care setting to increase their knowledge and understanding of federal residents’ rights as well as gain a general understanding of common resident responsibilities.
Objectives: Upon completion of this self-study, the participant will be able to:
1. List at least 10 federal long-term care residents’ rights and what each right requires of the facility and its staff.
2. Give examples of how to maintain residents’ rights in the day-to-day routine.
3. Describe how being responsive to residents’ rights leads to providing quality care.
4. Identify specific resident responsibilities regarding their rights.
