This course introduces the new home medical equipment staff member to pulse oximeters. Because of the multitude of pulse oximeters on the market, this course will cover pulse oximeters in the broadest generic terms. For specific information related to a particular brand of pulse oximeter, please consult the manufacturers.
Learning objectives: 1. Discuss the purpose of oximetry. 2. Describe how to use a pulse oximeter and set alarm limits. 3. Describe appropriate probe placement for different patients. 4. Describe adequate selection of the appropriate oximeter for the patient's need. 5. Name reasons for false oximetry readings. To successfully complete this course, you must attain a minimum score of 80% on the final exam and complete the course training survey.
