Objectives: Upon completion of this self-study the participant will be able to:
1. Increase their understanding of the incidence of pressure ulcers.
2. Define those individuals who are more at risk for pressure ulcer development.
3. Utilize a pressure ulcer assessment scale.
4. Identify potential causes of skin breakdown.
5. List at least 10 guidelines for prevention of pressure ulcers.
6. Increase their understanding of how a pressure ulcer develops.
7. Identify appropriate treatment measures to use when skin breakdown occurs.
