The nurse will enhance her understanding of CMS requirements in preventing pressure ulcers as well as promoting the healing of pressure ulcers that are present.
Purpose: The nurse will enhance their understanding of CMS requirements in preventing pressure ulcer/injury as well as promoting the healing of pressure ulcers/injuries that are present.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to
1. Define terminology related to pressure ulcer/injury.
2. Describe how pressure ulcer/injury occur.
3. Explain pressure ulcer/injury prevention measures.
4. Identify risk factors that increase an individual’s susceptibility to develop or to not heal pressure ulcer/injury.
5. Discuss pressure points and tissue tolerance.
6. Describe interventions that can be utilized to prevent or treat a pressure ulcer/injury.
7. Discuss pressure ulcer/injury, including the three most common types of ulcers, staging, healing, signs and symptoms of infection, and dressings and treatment.
