Objectives: Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

3. Describe the nutrition and hydration requirements of older adult patients.

4. Describe the four basic facility diets.

5. State the purpose of calorie counts and food intake studies.

6. Define dysphagia, and explain the risks of this condition.

7. Describe the general care of the patient with dysphagia and swallowing problems.

8. State the purposes of therapeutic diets.

9. List the types of alternative nutrition.

10. Describe the appropriate nursing interventions to assist patients in obtaining adequate nutrition and hydration.
