NUR162 - Depression in the Elderly (1.0 HR)
Participants will increase their understanding of the characteristics of depression in the elderly and what therapies are appropriate in treating it.
Purpose: The health care professional will better understand depression, how it affects the older adult, and the different treatment options that are available.
Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
1. List and discuss the different types of depression.
2. Identify risk factors and causes of depression in the elderly.
3. List symptoms of depression.
4. Discuss medication options used to treat depression in the elderly.
5. Discuss treatment modalities for depression in the elderly.
6. Explain caring for the patient with depression.
7. Explore current research into depression and the elderly.
