Participants will increase their understanding of the characteristics of depression in the elderly and what therapies are appropriate in treating it.
Purpose: Participants will increase their understanding of the characteristics of depression in the elderly and what therapies are appropriate in treating it. Objectives: 1. List and discuss the different types of depression; 2. Identify risk factors and causes of depression in the elderly; 3. List symptoms of depression; 4. Discuss medication options used to treat depression in the elderly; 5. Discuss treatment modalities for depression in the elderly; 6. Explain caring for the patient with depression; 7. Explore current research into depression and the elderly.
