To assure that facilities develop, implement, and maintain an Infection Prevention and Control Program in order to prevent, recognize, and control the onset and spread of infection in the health care facility.
Description
The Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has revised the “Interpretive Guidelines for Long-Term Care Facilities,” Tag F880. The revised material is effective as of November 28, 2017. The intent of this regulation is to ensure that facilities develop, implement, and maintain an Infection Prevention and Control Program in order to prevent, recognize, and control the onset and spread of infection within the facility.
Objectives
Upon completion of this self-study, the participant will be able to:
1. Develop an infection control program that meets the requirements of the law.
2. Understand how to investigate, control, and prevent the spread of infection in the facility.
3. Discuss investigative protocols used during surveys for infection control issues.
