This self-study will focus on the definition, diagnostic approach, non-pharmacologic, and pharmacologic management of chronic constipation and fecal impaction in the aging population, including an overview of medications.
Purpose: This self-study will focus on the definition, diagnostic approach, non-pharmacologic, and pharmacologic management of chronic constipation and fecal impaction in the aging population, including an overview of medications. Objectives: 1. List the criteria used to define constipation. 2. Identify the causes and risk factors of constipation. 3. Describe diagnostic methods. 4. Discuss the variety of non-pharmacologic treatments for constipation. 5. Discuss medications used in the management of constipation. 6. Outline the treatment for fecal impaction.
