MEM501 - Dementia Training: Understanding Dementia (1.5 HR)
All health care staff working with older adults will benefit from increasing their knowledge about caring for people living with dementia or a related disorder. The information provided here includes an overview of the brain's normal aging process, dementia's effect on the brain, and how dementia is diagnosed. The different types of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease, will be reviewed.

Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
1. Explain the normal aging process of the brain.
2. Describe dementia and its effects on the brain.
3. Discuss how memory loss from dementia differs from normal aging.
4. List neurological diseases or conditions that can cause irreversible or reversible dementia and other conditions or disorders that may result in similar symptoms.
5. Identify various therapies as interventions for prevention or slowing progression of dementia.
6. Summarize how dementias are diagnosed.
