The nursing assistant will gain a better understanding of the types, purpose, complications, and care of feeding tubes and a nursing assistant’s role in care of individuals with feeding tube.
Purpose: The nursing assistant will gain a better understanding of the types, purpose, complications, and care of feeding tubes and a nursing assistant’s role in care of individuals with feeding tube.
Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to
1. Name the general types of feeding tubes used in a health care setting.
2. List conditions that may require feeding tube use.
3. Describe complications of feeding tubes that may occur and when to report to the nurse
4. Discuss the nursing assistants role in care of person’s with feeding tubes
5. Explain safety precautions used in care of individuals with feeding tubes during, transfers, re-positioning, bathing and grooming.
