Purpose: The direct care worker will better understand depression and how it affects the elderly.
Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
1. Define depression.
2. List and discuss the different types of depression.
3. Identify risk factors and causes of depression in the elderly.
4. List symptoms of depression.
5. Discuss treatment modalities for depression in the elderly.
6. Explain caring for the patient with depression.
7. Explore current research into depression and the elderly.
