This course introduces the various types of orders required by Medicare: Preliminary/Dispensing Order, Written Order Prior to Delivery (WOPD), Standard Written Order (SWO), Certificate of Medical Necessity (CMN), and DME MAC Information Form (DIF). You will learn when to use which type of order, how to correctly complete orders, and who is authorized to order durable medical equipment.

This course introduces the various types of orders required by Medicare: Preliminary/Dispensing Order, Written Order Prior to Delivery (WOPD), Detailed Written Order (DWO), Certificate of Medical Necessity (CMN) and DME MAC Information Form (DIF). You will learn how to know when you use which type of order, how to correctly complete orders, and who is authorized to order durable medical equipment. To successfully complete this course, you must attain a minimum score of 80 percent on the final exam and complete the course training survey.

Learning objectives:

  1. Identify the various types of orders required by Medicare; 
  2. Identify the differences between a Dispensing Order, Written Order Prior to Delivery (WOPD), Detailed Written Order (DWO), Certificate of Medical Necessity (CMN) and DME MAC Information Form (DIF); 
  3. Describe how to correctly complete a CMN and DIF; 
  4. Identify which practitioners are authorized to order DME; 
  5. Identify when a new order is required.
