NUR147 - Infection Control (2.0 HR)
Health care professionals will review and gain knowledge of current and emerging infection control procedures, common health care related infections, and infectious disease outbreaks.
Purpose
Health care providers and others employed within health care facilities will learn about infection control measures including precautions, transmission-based (isolation) precautions, hand-washing, personal protective equipment, sterilization, and disinfection.
Objectives
1. Describe basic infection control measures, including the importance of hand-washing.
2. Discuss clean (uncontaminated) versus dirty (contaminated) equipment and supplies and how to handle each.
3. Explain the difference between standard precautions and transmission-based precautions and when to use each.
4. Review how and when to use personal protective equipment (PPE).
5. Describe the appropriate methods for disposing of contaminated materials.
6. State the appropriate procedure for disinfecting environmental surfaces.
7. Describe the infection control protocols used to prevent common health care related infectious diseases.
8. Discuss the issues related to infectious disease outbreaks.
