This course explains the reasons why consideration of the special communication needs of the elderly is important. This course includes a number of ideas about how you can improve your ability to communicate effectively with older clients and presents a number of ideas, tips and action steps to facilitate communication with this increasingly important demographic. Many of these suggestions are applicable for all age groups, but they are particularly important for older adults, for whom less than optimal communication can have more serious negative consequences. Learning objectives: 1. Explain why communicating effectively with the elderly is important; 2. Explain how to communicate effectively with aging clients in the home; 3. Explain how to communicate effectively with aging clients in the HME store; 4. Describe the negative consequences of unclear communication. To successfully complete this course, you must attain a minimum score of 80% on the final exam and complete the course training survey.
